A U.S. New article details how Charlottesville, Virgina passed a resolution which, "calls on the United States Congress and the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Virginia to adopt legislation prohibiting information obtained from the domestic use of drones from being introduced into a Federal or State court," and "pledges to abstain from similar uses with city-owned, leased, or borrowed drones."
The domestic use of drones by our military or, even worse, police is very disconcerting indeed. Drones are useful in situations where we want to strike an enemy with bombs or missiles without any risk of casualty. Where exactly will there be a need to shoot missiles at enemies on U.S. soil? There has never been an invasion of the U.S. mainland ever and no one would be foolish enough to do it. Even in the unlikely scenario where there is a terrorist cell holed up in some complex, why would we even need to use a drone? Terrorists would not have the capability of shooting down whatever manned aircraft the military might send in to destroy them in that scenario, so there wouldn't be the danger of casualty that may be present abroad which would justify the use of unmanned aircraft. Also, I find it extremely questionable that a drone would have much beneficial use for reconnaissance purposes either. There is no logical reason to use a drone as opposed to a manned aircraft over our own soil, where there is no danger of casualty to speak of. So no matter which way you slice it, drones would never be necessary in any situation over the continental United States. This doesn't even speak of the 4th Amendment Due Process issues with drone warfare at work here either.
